competitive pathway
Swimmers graduate from our Penguin Squads progress onto the next step in their swimming journey. Competitive squads are for swimmers who are becoming experienced and competitive young athletes.
Our competitive squad members have competitive skills and technique and can complete training sets with efficient strokes. They are competent medley swimmers who can race all for strokes with confidence.
The squad’s training sessions start to become more complex and longer in duration and work around a periodised annual program with regular dry land training that compliments their pool training. Members from the competitive squads will primarily be targeting performing at the Hampshire County Swimming Championships which are held each January / February and striving for qualification at the Swim England South East Regional Championships in April/May.
Swimmers in this pathway will be encouraged to achieve their individual targets and goals with the support of our coaching team but with the understanding that swimming may not be their top priority, and coaches will work with the athletes to help find balance with their training.
