Find out why getting involved is great for the club and you

Volunteering at Winchester City Swimming Club isn’t just about helping to provide the best experience for our members.. It’s about doing something that’s good for you: volunteering is hugely rewarding! It is a great way to develop yourself and others, to meet people, and to get involved in and give back to your local community.

We believe that volunteering for the club is the best way you can support your swimmers. It ensures that club money is only spent on in areas such as facility hire, equipment and coaching leadership and training. We rely on the members and their families to provide their skills to the club where they can be most effective in order to keep the costs of a quality provision affordable for all the swimmers.

We would love to welcome you to our club as a volunteer - exciting times lie ahead as our teaching, coaching and management team continue to develop and club alongside our wonderful facility at Winchester Sports and Leisure Park.

Please see our volunteer roles page for more information. If you would like to discuss volunteering, please get in touch using the contact us page, we would be delighted to talk to you.

People are often put off volunteering because they believe that they would not have the skills or time to give to the role. Take a look at some frequently asked questions.

“I want to help out, but I can’t because I don’t know anything about the sport!”

You can volunteer regardless of how much you know about aquatics – suitable roles can be found depending on your level of experience and your existing skills. If you are not sure what a role might entail you can work shadow someone for a while or at an event to get more of an idea whether you would be interested in.

There will be roles to suit different levels of time commitment. some roles will require a weekly commitment, whereas some could be for a single event. We will be grateful for any help you can offer, no matter how little or how much time you can contribute, and will help to find a role suited to your availability.

“If I want to be involved I have to commit to volunteering every week”

“Volunteering is just for older people”

Volunteering is for all ages, and we would encourage you to get involved no matter what your age or level of experience. Young volunteers can bring fresh new perspectives, energy and enthusiasm and have a positive influence on a club’s dynamic. It is healthy for a club’s dynamics. It is healthy for a club yo bring in new volunteers and it is important to consider who will be keeping the club running in the future. Combining volunteers of differing ages and levels of experience ensures that an effective club workforce is created. This also helps to bridge the gap between the younger swimmers and the older volunteers.

There are many different roles and opportunities available to suit everyone’s skills and passions to support our club including team managers, squad representatives, event administrators, officiating and marketing.

What volunteering opportunities are available?

What skills will I need?

Enthusiasm and a passion to help others are key! As long as you have that, you will be on to a great start. Everyone has to start somewhere and often a fresh perspective on things can be beneficial.

Some roles might require specific skills and training. We provide specific training where required to support you.
