Inclusive Gala 2023

Just two weeks after our Primary Schools Gala, we hosted our Inclusive Gala for primary school children with additional needs, also at WSLP.
A record 48 children from Harestock, Kings Worthy, Otterbourne, Shepherds Down, South Wonston, Weeke and Winnall schools took part in a range of individual and relay races, with a focus on having fun in the water.
The children were supported in the water by some of our older Club swimmers who did a brilliant job of encouraging them all, and succeeding in getting even the most nervous of children in for their races.
The children clearly all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and in addition to the swim races, there was a lively rendition of the YMCA, led of course by announcer Sottie.
The morning ended with a presentation of medals and certificates by The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr. Angela Clear, who came to support the event
As a club we come together to do many great things - but the enjoyment and achievements of the children puts this gala at the top of my personal list of favourites. A huge thank you to all the swimmers and other volunteers who came along to help - as one of the school children commented - "Best Day Ever!"
