Squad selections/movements are based on coaches discretion. The coaching team will consider attendance, work ethic, technical skill level, competition performances and future potential against the squad criteria’s when deciding squad moves.

To find out how your child is getting on, please contact your lead squad coach and arrange a convenient time to discuss their progressions with them.

WCSC

National Squad

Lead coach: Ben Reid

Desired age: 15+

Pool time: 9 pool sessions - approximately 17.5 hours per week, land training as required

Desired standard: National level

Swimmers Should:

  • Fully commit to the individual training program set out by the Head Coach (attend all sessions required).
  • Strive to commit to morning training until 8am.
  • Commit to the competition programme set out by the Head Coach.
  • Fully commit to the land training programme set out by the Head Coach.
  • Consistently train and perform at a National Level.
  • Have a positive attitude and demonstrate good behaviours before, during and after training sessions.
  • Contribute positive to the squad, the club and be a role model for younger swimmers.
  • Be self-motivated and have a good work ethic.
  • Have the desire to always push harder during training sets.
  • Take ownership of training and competition goals.
  • Have good manners and show respect to other swimmers, coaches and club members.
  • Treat swimming as your priority sport.

WCSC

Youth Squad

Lead coach: TBD

Desired age: 14+

Pool time: 8 pool sessions - approximately 14 hours per week, land training as required

Desired standard: Regional level and above

Swimmers Should:

  • Fully commit to the individual training programme set out by the Lead Squad Coach (attend all sessions required).
  • Strive to commit to morning training until 7:30am.
  • Commit to the competition program set out by the Lead Squad Coach.
  • Fully commit to the land training program set out by the Lead Squad Coach.
  • Show good behaviours before, during & after all training sessions.
  • Have good manners and show respect to other swimmers & to the coach(s).
  • Begin to set goals and targets in consultation with the lead squad coach which can be reviewed at the end of each training cycle.
  • Be able to consistently train and perform at a Regional standard.
  • Treat Swimming as your priority sport.

WCSC

Age Group Squad

Lead coach: TBD

Desired age: 12 - 15

Pool time: 6-7 pool sessions - approximately 10-12 hours per week, land training as required

Swimmers Should:

  • Fully commit to the individual training programme set out by the Lead Squad Coach (attend all sessions required).
  • Attend all morning sessions.
  • Commit to the competition programme set out by the Lead Squad Coach.
  • Fully Commit to the land programme set out by the Lead Squad Coach.
  • Show good behaviours before, during & after training sessions.
  • Bring a positive attitude and hard work ethic to all training sessions.
  • Have good manners and show respect to other swimmers & to the coach(s).
  • Begin to set goals and targets in consultation with the Lead Squad Coach which can be review at the end of each training cycle.
  • Begin to take ownership of your own training inside an outside of the pool. 

These squads aim to offer fun and challenging sessions for swimmers who love to swim but don’t regard swimming as their main sport and can’t commit to the demands of the National Squad Pathway.

Development Squad

Desired age: 12 - 18

Swimmers Should:

  • Have a positive attitude.Show good behaviours before, during and after training sessions.
  • Have good manners and show respect to other swimmers & to the coach(s).

Swimmers movement through the Development Squads will be made with coaches discretion, taking into account age and training ability rather than competition performance & attendance.

Junior Squad

Lead coach: Hannah Osbourne

Desired age: 11 - 14

Pool time: 5-7 pool sessions - approximately 6.5-9.5 hours per week, land training as required

This is the first competition squad in our pathway. In this squad swimmers will continue to develop their technique whilst start to be introduced to some harder training sets/demands and morning training (when deemed appropriate by the Lead Squad Coach). Swimmers will be judged on attendance, competition performance and against the squad criteria.

  • Have good manners and show respect to other swimmers & to the coach(s).

Swimmers movement through the Development Squads will be made with coaches discretion, taking into account age and training ability rather than competition performance and attendance.

Penguins Pathway

Young Advanced
Bronze Penguins

Desired age: 8 - 11

These are our foundation squads. Our aim is to in-still great technique (on all four stokes) and teach competitive skills in a fun and enjoyable environment.

Swimmers should:

  • Bring the appropriate equipment (as set out by the Squad Coach).
  • Continue to develop all four stokes to a high standard.
  • Work on competitive racing skills on all four strokes.
  • Bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm to all training sessions.
  • Consistently show good behaviours before, during & after training sessions.
  • Have good manners and show respect to other swimmers & to the coach(s).
