CEO Update

Hi all, hope you are enjoying the last week of our summer programme, phase one of our return to swimming.

Swimmer Expectations Version 3 are available HERE, and they include how we need to use River Park Leisure Centre and updated details on the use Oaklands. Please read them carefully as we have better access to facilities that you may want to be aware of.

As we now head into the new timetable, with more swimmers in the pool and moving towards the colder months, we need RENEWED efforts to abide by our swimmer expectations. As any behavioural scientist will tell you it takes concerted effort, resilience and time to create new and robust behaviours and we are not there yet with our Covid measures. Hand sanitising and social distancing (2m as a default) are the critical elements that I see needing more and constant attention. My biggest fear is that when we have a positive case, swathes of swimmers will be required to quarantine because our social distancing has not been robust enough. Please adhere to the rules and please listen to the volunteers and coaches who are tasked with ensuring we keep everyone safe!

I need to thank our lessons/administrative team this week for doing everything that has been necessary, and more, to ensure we can restart our term-time lessons programme next week. We have been doing everything in our power to ensure we can maximise lessons numbers in every pool. That means we can service those members but also bring in the income necessary to provide the subsidy for squad swimming. We have, and are continuing to, plan and replan how we use the pools and every time we do we need to re-agree these with pool operators, re-communicate with the lessons membership, register/re-register bookings, change all the supporting documentation, restaff the sessions, update the teaching curriculum, individually invoice ahead of the start date, etc, etc. The team have been brilliant and I’m sure will continue to be brilliant right through next week’s first week of lessons. Next week is a ‘pinch point’ with a new squads timetable and termly lessons re-starting – please be patient with us.

I hope everyone’s back-to swimming/school/college/uni/work goes well over the next few weeks and I’m sure I will be in touch again soon.
