Lessons Manager Update
We have a brilliant start to this term!
So far we have had 18 swimmers from our lessons program join our competitive program and 35 swimmers join our Discovery and Challenge Squads on Saturday. We have had four new teachers qualify and we are currently mentoring a further 6 helpers who are due to qualify in Easter. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome the 55 new swimmer who have joined us this term!
This half term we are running a 4 day course from Tuesday – Friday, 12-3pm at Kings School. We shall be running group stage lessons and private 1:1 lessons. I would highly recommend these classes if you feel that your swimmer needs an bit of an extra push or is on the verge of moving up. With hour long classes for swimmers in Stage 3 and up, in the 4 day course they can fit in 4hrs worth of lessons which equates to 8 weeks of termly lesson! If you are planning to book on do so now – as spaces are filling up quickly and there is only 4 days left to make the most of the early bird discount!
We are hoping to host a stroke technique workshop during half term. As soon as we have the details we shall be emailing them out to you all.
Well done to all those swimmers who made it through the snow to get to lessons! If we do need to cancel lessons due to weather conditions we shall email out to all customers as well as post a notice on our facebook page.
A reminder to all swimmers in Stage 6+ – please bring some clothes to swim in next week as it is Water Safety week! We would encourage you to bring a long sleeve top and trousers with you – no onezies please!

February Half Term Course - only 4 days left to make the most of our Early Bird 10% discount!
We shall be running a 4 day course over February Half Term at Kings School. We are offering group Stage lessons as well as 1:1 lessons, with Stages 3 and above being offered hour long sessions. A reminder to all swimmers who have lessons at Kings School that you MUST wear a swim hat in the pool. Swimmers are welcome to wear any type of swim hat, however Abi will be selling Penguins club hats on poolside for £5. Hats are also available to order via our website by completing the online form HERE
Unfortunately we are unable to accept requests from lessons parents to join the WCPSC Facebook Chat Closed Group. This group is for parents of squad swimmers only.
New Parents Membership Forms
If you have yet to complete your membership form, please do so as soon as possible as these details are used to register the swimmers on the Swim England database so that they are covered by our insurance.
Re-enrolment Letters - Summer Term 2019
Re-enrolment emails will be sent out towards the end of the Spring Term. If you would prefer to not re-enrol into Summer term lessons please remember to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know as soon as possible.
Lessons Club T-shirts and Hoodies for Swimmers
The winter weather is here, so why not get your WCPSC lessons hoodie to keep you warm after lessons! They are great value, and available in a wide variety of colours, and you are able to add your initials and/or surname to the back if you would like to!
Key Dates for the Remainder of Term
Week 5 (Week starting the 4th Feb) – Water Safety Week for swimmers in Stage 6+ – please bring clothes to swim in!
Half Term (Week commencing the 18th Feb) – No termly swimming lessons – but 4 day Feb Half term Holiday Course!
Week 8 (Week commencing the 4th March) – Distance week for width classes. Swimmers shall be swimming lengths instead of widths.
Week 9 (Week commencing the 11th March) – Final Assessment Week / Distance week for swimmers in Stage 6+
Week 11(Week commencing the 25th March) – Reports are handed out and badges are available to purchase / Water Safety in Stages 1-5.
Week 12 (Week commencing the 4th April) – Mini Gala for swimmers in Stage 6+. Last Week of lessons before Easter Break.

Penguins off to a flying start at Hampshire County Championships
Some 40 Winchester City Penguins swimmers were in action this weekend at the Hampshire County Championships taking place in the 50m pool at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.
Charlotte Prince-Rayner retained her open 800m freestyle title and Tom Menlove finished the weekend achieving the same feat in the boys aged 17 and over 800m freestyle and open1500m freestyle. The boys 10-14 years relay teams of Jack Kneller, Ben Hatfield, Zakhos Lekkas, Daniel Oakley and Jamie Mitchell also achieved double County gold.
Other medal winners over the weekend included: Alice Whyte, Oskar Priesemann, Iona Morley and Ben Hatfield (silver), Ed Menlove and Fergus Phelan (bronze) in 800m freestyle.
Ben Hatfield and Alice Whyte in the 400m freestyle (bronze); the girls 10-12 freestyle and medley relay teams of Alice Whyte, Anoush Danelian, Cat Tarmey and Charlotte Pfiffner (silver); girls 10-14 years freestyle relay team of Abigail Watkinson, Anoush Danelian, Erin Woo and Mia Goodale (bronze).
Sarah Standen, lead club coach at WCPSC, commented, “What a great weekend of swimming! As a club, we are delighted to have had so many of our young athletes showing their determination and commitment competing in the gruelling 800m and 1500m long distance events. Relay team success shows our strength in depth amongst the younger swimmers.”
“We are really looking forward to a time, in the not too distant future, when we can host these show-case events and bring the County together at our own new 50m pool and leisure centre in Winchester”.
