WEEKLY NOTICES: 28.06.2018

Club Information

CEO Update

Hi all, hope you are well and not melting in this hot weather!

It’s been great to see the interest in becoming a Trustee for the charity this week as the deadline for application has now passed. I look forward to sharing the details of those applications next week, ahead of the Nutrition Workshop / Special General Meeting on the 19 July, 6 – 9pm (Put it in your diary!!)

This week I am also busy preparing multiple papers for a Trustee meeting early next week. We are in the middle of an important decision-making ‘window’ as we review and revise the swimming programme for 2018-19. This is the first chance for our new Head Coach, Steve, to start to evolve the programme to generate additional club growth whilst not compromising any swimming ambitions. Once the new programme is set, the next task for Steve and the coaching team is to look at any proposed squad moves that would take effect from September.

It was also good to meet with some of the Lessons team this week to gain feedback on the draft Strategy. Some really useful feedback, especially on the Lessons section, that will guide the next iteration of the draft Strategy. You can find a summary of that feedback on our draft Strategy web page here. I will be setting up more consultation meetings very soon and will keep you updated.

A warm welcome to Abi Jones into the role of Lessons Supervisor – great to have you on board Abi. See the Lessons section below for more details.

A special thanks to Marie this week for ensuring we continue to get exposure in the local press. See this week’s Chronicle for another full page of coverage.

Have a great weekend!

Mike

Fundraising Help

We are planning to run a couple of events in the near future and need your help.

  1. Pop up shop and café at the club champs 8th September, 20th Oct and 24th Nov.

We are planning to sell second hand kit (flippers, snorkels, costumes, goggles etc) also teas and coffee and cakes to spectators and swimmers. For this we are looking for all second hand kit donations. Could you please keep hold of any second hand kit you have and pass it to one of the fundraising team (Emily Whyte, Sabina Lopez, Cath Johnson, Gemma Nash, Kate Thorman) or squad reps or contact us at fundraising@wcpsc.org.uk

We are also looking for anyone who would like to bake cakes, biscuits etc for the sale. Please let us know if you are able to bring any along for the sale by emailing fundraising@wcpsc.org.uk.

We also need raffle prizes for these events. If anyone runs a business, which could donate a prize e.g free meal, gym membership, gift etc please let us know. If you have any contacts for raffle prizes also please get in touch fundraising@wcpsc.org.uk.

  1. We are planning to run a car boot sale on Sunday Oct 14th. For this we are asking you to have a summer clear out and any unwanted stuff can then be donated to penguins to sell at the carboot sale. It needs to be in used but saleable condition so please keep hold of anything you maybe getting rid of. We will be asking for all donations the week starting the 8th Oct further details will be sent out in September.

In order to run the car boot sale we will need lots of the swimmers and some parents to volunteer so please put a note of the date in your diaries.

Thanks for all your help. In the meantime don’t forget to sign up for the Penguins charity lottery and also register for easy fundraising. Together we can meet our target!

Lessons

Lessons updates

We would like to proudly announce the appointment of our new Lessons Supervisor Abi Jones who is due to start her new role in September. Abi has been a member of WCPSC for the past 8 years as a competitive swimmer, helper and teacher. She currently teaches on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday am and Saturday pm for the club – so you have probably seen her around! She will be shadowing Issy over the next 5 weeks ready to officially take over the Supervisor position in September.

At the moment Winchester seams to be experiencing a mini “heat wave” and I appreciate that poolside is significantly hotter then normal at the moment. However please note that the fire doors on poolside at Kings need to stay closed at all times. If they are opened it not only becomes a fire hazard but causes the air ventilation system to stop working causing additional issues with chlorine levels, air ventilation and temperature control. We would appreciate it if you could respect the rules and regulations which Kings School put in place to make sure that poolside is a kept safe for our swimmers, parents and staff. If you have any issues with this, we ask that you contact us directly.

Next week is distance week and the final week of assessments. Swimmers in Stage 3 and above will be given an extra opportunity to gain a distance badge.

For those swimmers who swim on a Friday at Kings School please note that lessons have been cancelled this week (29.6.18) due to Kings School Prom. You have not been charged for this session so no credit notes will be issued. We look forward to seeing all of Friday lesson swimmers back on poolside on the 6th July.
