CEO Update

Hi all and welcome to British Summer Time, I do hope the lost hour hasn’t affected our early morning swimmers too badly!!

You may have noticed a new coach pool-side this week as Steve Greenfield has now joined us in his role as Interim Head Coach. Steve will be looking to get around most of the squads over the next few weeks, meeting swimmers and parents as he goes. I’m sure you will be offering Steve a warm welcome when you see him.

The advert for the permanent Head Coach role is still live and we continue to receive applications and interest. I will keep you informed of progress as we move toward the closing date.

It was a joy to be at the Inclusive Gala last Friday watching children with additional needs taking part in fun and competitive swimming opportunities. It was great to see a few of our talented competitive swimmers volunteering to help, and being absolutely brilliant with the young participants. It was also great to have the Mayor and Mayoress in attendance as well as Councillor Lisa Griffiths, it all helps the day feel special for our young swimmers. A big thanks to Liz Hatfield and Thelma Hawkins for putting the day together and ensuring it ran smoothly.

There was a positive Board of Trustees meeting last Saturday, primarily receiving verbal updates on various club matters. This included staffing, safeguarding, membership, finances, constitution, and changes to General Data Protection Regulations. Notes will be available on the website in due course.

Enjoy your Easter weekends when they come around.

WCPSC Inclusive Gala 2018

Last Friday we held our fourth Inclusive gala for children with additional needs from local primary schools.

As ever the children had a fantastic morning and outdid themselves in both their swimming and their supporting!  We were joined by the Mayor and also Lisa Griffiths, Portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing, who presented the children with their medals and certificates.

We also had a wonderful cake – the first of several planned through the year to celebrate our 70th birthday!

We are very grateful to Kings School and to Winchester Round Table, whose support makes this gala possible in the first place.

Big thanks to the in-water helpers: Oskar, Jacques, Bronte, Thelma and Vicky.   Also thanks to the poolside crew of Sue, Lionel, Mike, Tayyaba, Julia, and Mike and Mo Vokes.

NEW - OPEN MEETS INFORMATION GUIDE!

We have recently added a comprehensive guide to swim competitions on the website here:

http://wcpsc.org.uk/open-meet-information-pages/

This includes a guide to the different types of competitions we enter (from galas to Nationals and beyond!); a guide to how to enter meets; and a glossary of some of the terms you may hear.

There is information relevant to all levels of swimmer, but those newer to the sport may find it particularly helpful.

Grand Prix Round 4 - 21st April 2018

Welcome to our new swimmers who have joined us recently and not yet had the opportunity to join in the Grand Prix 2018 Series.

The Grand Prix Series is a competition just for swimmers in Foundation, Development and Junior Challenge squads, with a few invites from Junior Advanced lessons. Swimmers from other squads can enter on a time trial basis but not score points in the series.

It’s a great opportunity for swimmers to compete within their age groups and have a go at competing on every stroke, on all distances, throughout the series. Everyone scores points for getting a PB ( personal best time) and then position points within their age group.

I know we’ve only just completed GP3 but Grand Prix 4 is on Saturday 21st April at St Swithuns 2-5pm.

The events in GP4 are the 200m Individual Medley,100m butterfly and 50m freestyle and 100 backstroke. I suggest that swimmers enter 3 events maximum in this round. For the younger and less experienced swimmers they need to be confident doing 50 butterfly to be able to enter the 200IM as this is 50m of each stroke. Anyone thinking of entering the 100 butterfly have a chat with me first 🙂 I recommend that new swimmers only enter the 50 freestyle and 100 back unless they have already confidently completed the 50 fly in GP3.

I have put this entry form out early as I know some of you will be away soon for Easter, so this still gives you time to submit before the closing date.

Do read all the attached information and get your entry in before the closing date, which is Friday April 6th.
