It was great to be at my first Club Champs at the weekend and to see first hand our brilliant swimmers in action. It was lovely to see them enjoying their swimming but equally lovely to see them hanging out and having fun with their friends pool-side. A lot of credit must go to our army of volunteers and coaches who ensure the days run smoothly. From where I was standing it looked incredibly slick and professional. It was also really good to meet some of the parents and get to know a few of the names and faces. Note to self, jumpers aren’t necessary in pool buildings.
This week we are preparing to resubmit information for our Swim England accreditation. This kite-mark recognises good governance, strong membership, volunteer infrastructure, and sustainability. It is a great opportunity to revisit some of these critical areas and reflect on what we can continue to improve upon. We will be submitting the information for our SwimMark Essentials accreditation on Friday and will receive feedback in due course. We will keep you posted on the outcome.
We hope to be going live for new coaching positions this week. If you have good swimming networks please keep an eye out for the advert and help us find the best possible candidates to support our programme. We know we are stretched at present in delivering our squads activities, but hope to address this over the next few months. In other news, Sam Chadwick has been accepted on to the Level 3 course, with the first induction weekend due to be held in November. This is a great opportunity to work with other experienced coaches and further hone those skills.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped at the Club Championships this weekend. A more detailed report about the championships will be in next week’s notices.
Results for Sessions 1-4 are now available to view on the website, and the distance event results will be loaded as soon as we have them.
Thelma could still do with a little more help for remaining Sessions 5 and 6 on Saturday 4th November, so if you are able to help please contact her at email@example.com.
Open Invite to Social for parents, coaches and volunteers on November 4th at The Holiday Inn, Morn Hill, Winchester after the final session of the Club Champs.
This is an opportunity to just be together, have a drink together and maybe have a meal or a bar snack after a very busy couple of weekends. All are welcome to join us.
For those going direct from Session 6 then probably best to pre order food so that we don’t have to wait ages when we arrive so please do look at the menus & get your order to Thelma by Sun 29th. Social Event for parents, coaches and volunteers
Others are welcome to pre order to eat with us at 8.30pm or arrive earlier, or later, & order their own or just join us for a drink.
Do come along.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped at Club Champs last weekend. It was a huge success and the children all had a fantastic time. It was good to welcome some new volunteers. All volunteer’s names were entered into a draw and the lucky winners received either a bottle of wine or chocolates as a token of our appreciation for their hard work. I hope it gave those of you who were contemplating volunteering in the future, the opportunity to see what is involved for each role.
The following roles are still vacant. If you think this could be something you are interested in and want to find out more about the role, please contact Katie Thorman or Amanda Frisby.
Open Meets Administrator/ Data Inputter
Alison Oakley (Open Meets Co-ordinator) is looking for a volunteer to join her team. The role requires the volunteer to:
- Assist her team in inputting data for open meets i.e. entry times
- Meet at ATR during squad training times in the evenings when is required
- Input some data from home as required and liaise with Alison via email.
The time commitment required for this role would vary depending on the number of Open Meets occurring but would average 2 hours a week. The volunteer would be fully supported in this role and be working as part of a team.
Team Selection Administrator
Kim Hill is looking for a volunteer to be responsible for:
- liaising with the coaches via email
- sending out and receiving emails regarding Team Selections for galas
- checking emails daily especially during times when team selections are occurring
This role requires the volunteer to be DBS checked, which will be arranged by the club at no charge to the volunteer.
The time commitment required will average 2-3 hours a week. The role can be managed predominantly from home, with access to the email, although Kim will want to arrange a meeting with the volunteer prior to starting, to explain the role requirements in more detail. No previous knowledge of the club or swimming is required, only an enthusiasm to learn.
To help with any of these roles please contact Katie Thorman and Amanda Frisby on firstname.lastname@example.org
Academy and Preparation – Saturday 28th October – Following the cancelled ATR session on Tuesday this week, Academy and Preparation are invited to train on Saturday morning from 8-10am at River Park. This means the 7:00-8:00am Saturday session at the College will not be on for your squads.
Development Session – Saturday 4th November There will be no session running at Kings, and Development are instead invited to train with Prep1&2 at Winchester College from 7.00-8.00am.
Grand Prix 1 – Saturday 25th November
I know it’s a busy time of year with the Club Championships, then some of you swimming at the Novice Gala at River Park, oh yes & not forgetting the Fun Night & Presentation Evening for last years Grand Prix Series, however it’s also time to get the entry form out (and returned) for the first round of the Grand Prix Series 2018.
This will be held on the 25th November at St Swithuns 2-5pm. Please do read the conditions which do give full details of the series & all the dates for each round.
The Grand Prix Series is just for Foundation, Development & Junior Challenge squads to give them an opportunity of regular racing opportunities throughout the year. Swimmers from other squads can enter individual events on a time trial basis but cannot score throughout the series. Over the 5 rounds swimmers will get the opportunity to have a go at all strokes at a range of distances along with Individual medley events. The idea is to have a go at all the events. It’s a great way for swimmers to challenge themselves and also have a fun time with their friends 🙂
Please note the closing date for GP1 is 14th November and late entries WILL NOT be accepted so just get your form completed & submitted quickly 🙂 I have included a word doc for those that like to complete and return or a pdf for those that print from their phone so that you don’t lose half the boxes!!!
Do ask if you have any queries
Oh yes & we will please need help on the night so let me know if you’re happy to help sort swimmers, do results input, refreshments, badges etc.
Note I have included the link on the entry form for you to use if you don’t yet know your swimmer’s ASA registration number 🙂
