Happy Sport Relief week to all of you!
It was a pleasure to visit the lessons programme at Kings School this week, talk to some of our parents and see lots of happy kids enjoying their swimming, receiving their termly reports and gaining their badges. It was also great to gain lots of positive feedback about the lessons programme, from how it is personally administered to the quality of the teaching and teaching ratios. It was also useful to hear a few of things where we can make some small but important improvements.
I had a very positive meeting with a number of members today, looking at a draft constitution and plans to expand the Board of Trustees. Once we have collected more member feedback on the constitution we will then need to have it agreed through Swim England, before sending it off to the Charity Commission, and then finally bringing it to a Special General Meeting of members. The updated constitution aligns to the model ASA constitution and;
– is simpler
– is more tightly aligned to the Governing Body
– places greater emphasis on safeguarding
– provides more comprehensive disciplinary powers
– is clearer on required Trustees roles
The documents can be found on our website HERE. Please respond in writing to me at email@example.com by 12pm (lunchtime) Wednesday 28th March with any feedback you may have.
Finally, I am really looking forward to the Inclusive Gala this week. This will be our forth Inclusive Gala and is due to give 40 children from 7 local schools a great opportunity to race and have fun. A full report to follow.
WELL DONE to OSKAR PRIESEMANN who has qualified for the German National Championships on the 200m Fly – posting a whopping 4 second personal best time! This time of 2.20.25 also puts him at this early stage in a strong position to qualify for the British National Championships too!! Great to see Oskar’s hard work, and improved commitment, focus and technique paying off!
Well Done to Marcus Scullion who has been selected for the Butterfly Stroke Camp for the Scottish National Youth Squad!
Primary Schools Gala - Friday 8th June 2018
The WCPSC Annual Primary Schools Gala is our biggest event of the year and we need at least 50 volunteers to help on the morning to run this amazing event. It’s great fun to be involved with, so if you can spare a few hours on the day please do let Thelma know.
We also publish a programme for the event so if you or anyone you know would be interested in placing an advertisement in the programme, or would like to sponsor the event please contact Thelma for more information.
The Schools Gala Team
The count down to the end of the term is upon us! This week is the last Friday and Saturday lesson of the term, and next week is the last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the term.
This week all swimmers should have received a report written by their teacher letting you know about their progress through the term. If your swimmer hasn’t moved up, it should explain what it is they still need to work on. If you have any issues with your swimmers assessment or report please don’t hesitate to discuss it with Issy or myself on poolside or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Badges and certificates will also be available to purchase for £3.50 this week – so don’t forget to bring some change with you!
All swimmers should also have received a re-enrolment email with details of which classes they have been enrolled into for the Summer term. If you haven’t received an email, or need to change the day or time of your lessons please let us know asap by emailing email@example.com
We are still looking to recruit new helpers for the Summer term. If you are 14 years or older and would be interested in joining our teaching team as a helper, do get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We value feedback from our lessons swimmers and parents regarding our Learn to Swim programme. We would appreciate it if you could please take 5 minutes to complete our short customer feedback form
We are introducing our Little Penguins classes on a Saturday morning at 8.00am and 9.00am at Riverpark! These classes are for swimmers aged 2 to 3 years and are very similar to our Stage 1 classes with a 1:1 ratio and a maximum of 5 swimmers per class. If you have a swimmer interested in booking on please drop us a line at email@example.com.

Club T-shirts and Hoodies for the lessons programme!
It’s great to see some of our swimmers arriving at lessons in the new WCPSC lessons t-shirts and hoodies! If you haven’t got yours yet why not have a look at the range below. They are great value, and available in a wide variety of colours, and you are able to add your initials and/or surname to the back if you would like to!
If you can’t see a colour you would like, why not suggest one and we will see if we can add it to the range!

NEW - OPEN MEETS INFORMATION GUIDE!
We have recently added a comprehensive guide to swim competitions on the website here:
This includes a guide to the different types of competitions we enter (from galas to Nationals and beyond!); a guide to how to enter meets; and a glossary of some of the terms you may hear.
There is information relevant to all levels of swimmer, but those newer to the sport may find it particularly helpful.
Grand Prix Round 4 - 21st April 2018
Welcome to our new swimmers who have joined us recently and not yet had the opportunity to join in the Grand Prix 2018 Series.
The Grand Prix Series is a competition just for swimmers in Foundation, Development and Junior Challenge squads, with a few invites from Junior Advanced lessons. Swimmers from other squads can enter on a time trial basis but not score points in the series.
It’s a great opportunity for swimmers to compete within their age groups and have a go at competing on every stroke, on all distances, throughout the series. Everyone scores points for getting a PB ( personal best time) and then position points within their age group.
I know we’ve only just completed GP3 but Grand Prix 4 is on Saturday 21st April at St Swithuns 2-5pm.
The events in GP4 are the 200m Individual Medley,100m butterfly and 50m freestyle and 100 backstroke. I suggest that swimmers enter 3 events maximum in this round. For the younger and less experienced swimmers they need to be confident doing 50 butterfly to be able to enter the 200IM as this is 50m of each stroke. Anyone thinking of entering the 100 butterfly have a chat with me first 🙂 I recommend that new swimmers only enter the 50 freestyle and 100 back unless they have already confidently completed the 50 fly in GP3.
I have put this entry form out early as I know some of you will be away soon for Easter, so this still gives you time to submit before the closing date.
Do read all the attached information and get your entry in before the closing date, which is Friday April 6th.
Portsmouth Easter Celebration Meet : 29th March – 1st April 2018
All entries have been accepted and can be viewed here, along with confirmed session times:
