Another busy but positive week but I am particularly looking forward to discussing the set-up of the Youth Forum with some of the Excel squad this week and gaining their views. Ellie Jones will be joining us to share her experiences of being on the National Youth Forum with the ASA from yesteryear.
I’ve also had really positive conversations with our Head of Performance, Kim Hill, about potential changes to squad structures and criteria in the future. Kim was advocating a need for criteria to be more objective and transparent if possible, and therefore easier for swimmers, parents and coaches to understand and administer. We talked about ways in which that might be possible, given Kim’s conversations with a number of other clubs. We look forward to sharing more detail on this in due course.
I’ve also met with St Swithun’s Head of Outreach and Community, Simon Mayes, this week. We had very productive discussions about pool time to service our community programmes, especially the Swim for the Future schools programme and our SPLAAT holiday schemes. We also spoke about sharing more information on schemes / funding opportunities that we could be more engaged in that focus on the holistic development of children, but use sport as the vehicle.
It doesn’t look like being a quiet Christmas as we continue to ensure memberships are renewed – see important message below, and prepare the documentation to support the AGM on the 14 January. You will receive a formal invitation over the Christmas period.
Merry Christmas to you all!!
Thank-you to all those who have completed membership renewal forms so far…..however, due to a poor response and short deadline, we are going to automatically renew the remaining people’s membership out of necessity. Anyone not wishing to renew should email Alison Crompton at firstname.lastname@example.org before 29 December. After that payments are locked in and non-refundable* and the DD will be taken on 1st Jan.
The information due to be collected via the forms you have previously received is still critically important to the club, and we will pursue those in due course. However, we are removing the pressure to return the membership renewal element so people aren’t left unable to swim in early January when they may have intentions to start burning off any festive excesses
*once we have renewed memberships with Swim England, they don’t refund if anyone decides to lapse their membership
WCPSC may have the opportunity to recruit a new part-time Lessons Manager / Supervisor in the New Year. We would like people to send us an expression of interest, preferably with a CV, by 5pm Tuesday 9th January if you are interested. Subject to confirming the funding for the new role early in January, we would hold interviews the week beginning Monday 15 January. Please send expressions of interest to Vicky Harrison, Head of Operations, at email@example.com.
The primary purpose of the role is to oversee the Charity’s Learn to Swim Programme, including;
– Enrolling and placing swimmers into classes, confirming bookings and providing new members with all enrolment paperwork.
– Recruiting, deploying and managing the supervisors, teachers and helpers
– Ensuring market-leading standards in developing high-quality swimmers whilst maximising engagement and enjoyment
– Ensuring we reach target capacity for the programme through a vibrant and effective marketing plan
We will also require the successful candidate to act as one of the Lessons Supervisors as part of the role, including;
– overseeing the quality of sessions whilst poolside
– acting as a point of contact for parents and in the case of incidents and emergencies

We plan to organise a “New Year Goody Bag” exchange during the evening as this has always proved popular. If you would like to take
part, please bring along a gift bag to exchange along with £1 entry fee. Your bag should contain small gifts suitable for another swimmer which could include edible treats, stationary, cosmetic items, keepsakes, small games etc. with the emphasis on fun and certainly not spending more than £10. You will hand over your bag at the start of the evening and receive an entry ticket which will entitle you to take home someone else’s donated goody bag.
Blueseventy male and female racing suits and accessories PRIZE DRAW – £10 per entry. On the evening, you have the unique opportunity to enter your name and contact details for the amazing chance to win your swimmer a great racing suit with a collection of accessories. One pair of jammers and one technical knee length suit as the main prize on offer.
Food on the night!
A large slice of pizza with chips can be pre-ordered for £5.00 each. Why not pre-order your food when you purchase your tickets.
Gluten free pizza is available – please mention this when you order your food.
Safeguarding during the evening
We understand that there may be the chance that some of the older swimmers will come along without their parent or carer. We ask that when collecting your ticket(s), all under 18-year olds must supply a named responsible adult who will be there for the duration of the event in the unlikely case that there is an incident or issue.

Grand Prix 2018 Round 2 – Saturday 20th January 2018
Welcome to our new swimmers who have joined us since GP1.
The Grand Prix Series is just for swimmers in Foundation, Development and Junior Challenge, with a few invites from Junior Advanced lessons. Swimmers from other squads can enter on a time trial basis but not score points in the series.
It’s a great opportunity to compete within their age groups and have a go at competing on every stroke, on all distances, throughout the series. Everyone scores points for getting a PB ( personal best time) and then position points within their age group.
The events in GP2 are the 200 back,100 Individual Medley and 50 breaststroke.
Do read all the attached information which is available to view on our website HERE and get your entry in before the closing date, which is Friday Jan 5th
