Facility and new programme update from the CEO
It’s that time of year again when we review the coaching programme for the forthcoming season. We will be looking to build and improve on this year’s programme. After final dialogue with the pool operators and the management team we will take the programme, budget and monthly training fees to Trustees for agreement next week and will then be able to share this along with squad lists before the summer break.
Thank you to those who were able to offer feedback through the online consultation and drop in sessions for the new sports facility. A sample of comments from the feedback were presented at the WC cabinet leisure centre committee meeting on Monday. Committee papers for this meeting are available HERE
Stride Treglown architects in conjunction with LA architects, on behalf of Winchester City Council and the University of Winchester, are opening a second phase of engagement ‘drop-in’ sessions:

• Saturday 22nd July between 10.00am and 4.00pm at Winchester Sports Stadium
• Tuesday 25th July between 3.00pm and 8.00pm at Winchester Sports Stadium.

We need as many members as possible to attend one of these sessions and make your comments known to the project team.
If you are unable to attend, copies of the exhibition boards and a feedback questionnaire will be available on the Council’s website from Friday 21st July until Friday 18th August.

Re-enrolment emails will be sent out during this week detailing the lesson reserved for your swimmer(s) for next term. If you have a query regarding the lessons reserved please contact the Lessons Admin Team.

Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club will again be running their intensive holiday swimming courses at Kings School during the 2017 Summer Holiday.
Week 1: Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th August
Week 2: Monday 14th to Friday 18th August
Week 3: Monday 21st to Friday 25th August
The intensive courses are proven the best way to give your child a boost with their swimming, and are also perfect for new swimmers beginning lessons!
Run by ASA qualified teachers, working with small groups of swimmers to focus on improving confidence, technique and stamina whilst having fun in the water!
Places are strictly limited. Book early to secure your place!
Please note that for the safety of all children, parents are not permitted poolside at Riverpark Leisure Centre pool during our lessons sessions. Parents can view their child’s swimming lesson from the balcony by the main pool, or the bridge over the learner pool.
Children are requested to arrive 5 minutes before their lesson begins and to line up by the wall next to their stage sign for registration purposes.
The teachers and helpers will come and collect their classes. Children from the learner pool will be walked back to the changing rooms at the end of the lesson to meet their parents.
If there is a specific medical reason why your child needs chaperoning during the session and therefore requires the parent to be poolside, please contact Vicky in advance of the session, or see the poolside supervisor before your child’s lesson begins.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Please remember to wear a swimming hat to lessons. If you don’t have one we have club hats available to purchase from the poolside supervisor at lessons, cost £5.
Why is it important to wear a swimming hat?
* To keep your hair dry
* To protect your hair from damage caused by chlorinated water
* To reduce drag in the water caused by loose hair
* To insulate your head while swimming, as most body heat is lost through the head
* To keep your hair out of your face while swimming, and prevent your hair from becoming entangled in your goggle straps
* To help keep the pool water clean by preventing the contaminants on your hair being washed into the water.
* To help prevent clogging up the swimming pool’s filters with loose hair that falls out in the pool.
* To look a proud member of Winchester City Penguins!
* To swim faster (how many Olympic swimmers do you see not wearing a hat?)
