CEO Update

Very quick update this week.

We had a good meeting with Winchester City Council last week discussing how the new Bar End facility could operate, what our requirements might be and how we can work together. There were very open and positive discussions that ended with an agreement to meet again for further exploration. In addition to this, there was a City Council Cabinet Meeting on Monday where the new facility specification was agreed, including a 50m community pool. The intention is for the new facility to differentiate itself from other local facilities by having an aquatics focus. It is my understanding that although the specification is now agreed, it is still subject to the final Business Case for its usage passing through the decision-making processes at The Council. We are led to believe, however, that the Business Case has been scoped and that the current specification is financially viable.

We had a positive Trustee meeting at the weekend, covering a broad agenda. Attention, for the Trustee group, will now start turning towards the AGM in January, and pulling together the Annual Report and Finances. Minutes of the Trustee meeting will be published on the website once finalised.

Again it was good to see a little more swimming this week, this time some squad training. As someone who loves sport and has a deep appreciation of any athletic prowess, I loved watching how efficient some of the swimmers are in their strokes, and how precise they are in some of their techniques. You might be able to tell I’m not from a swimming background here, but to see some of the swimmers using the dip created after the bow wave to open half a mouth and suck in some air, whilst keeping the other half shut under the water is incredible precision.

Hampshire Masters team success

The National Masters Inter-County competition took place last weekend down in Portsmouth.  Two of our swimmers, Cath Beckett and Rory Fitzgerald, were selected to compete and were part of the victorious county team.  In addition to this Cath also achieved a new county record in the 50m fly for her age category.  Well done all!

Arena League Round 2

Well done to all of our swimmers competing for the club at the Arena League round 2.  Some very tough racing and some fast early season swimming from many of our team.  A special mention to Jack Kneller who captured a hat trick of victories including the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and the 11/U freestyle relay team alongside Ben Hatfield, Archie Thorman and Zakhos Lekkas.
