WEEKLY NOTICES: 14.06.2018

Club Information

CEO Update

Hi all, hope you are having a good week!! The two big pieces of news this week are;

New WCPSC Head Coach

Earlier this week we announced the appointment of Steve Greenfield as the club’s new Head Coach.

We had a few exceptional candidates that we considered very carefully. In the end Steve’s breadth of skills and experience tipped the balance in his favour, especially in the context of our draft strategy and published job description. We are in a critical phase in the club’s evolution, with a 50m pool on the horizon, and we have to build towards that, whilst not stepping back from our competitive, community, and learn-to-swim ambitions. Steve was seen as the right man for that job over this next strategy period. On top of his recognised skills in talent and performance development we were particularly impressed with his parent and swimmer engagement, coaching philosophy, facility knowledge, coach development expertise, as well as welfare, disability and wider inclusion experience.

Steve’s initial focus will be to prepare our performance swimmers for the forthcoming Home Nation Championships, whilst reviewing the 2018-19 squad structure, training / competition schedule and consolidating a talented coaching team around him.

Thank-you to those that have already passed on positive messages.

Nutrition and Hydration seminar and Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday the 19th July

We are also inviting our members / parents to a Nutrition and Hydration seminar and short Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Thursday the 19th July, 6-9pm, at Winchester Rugby Club.

Critically, we would also like to invite interest and applications for additional Trustee roles on our Board, to be voted-in as part of the EGM on the 19th. The deadline for application is Thursday 28 June

For background, we are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a rich history of swimming provision dating back 70 years. We have 1200 members across our competitive and learn-to-swim programmes and service another 800 non-members each year through community provision. We offer a diverse programme of swimming activities, regardless of people’s interests, ambitions, ability, age and personal circumstance.

All Trustees will be insured under our Swim England policy against Public & Products Liability, Professional Indemnity, and Management Liability.

You can find a full recruitment pack by clicking here

Here’s what we would like you to do;

  • if you are interested in a Trustee role, download the pack and get in touch
  • If you aren’t interested but know someone who would be a great addition to the Trustee team, get in touch and let us know (you can include non-members that we could consider co-opting on)

Finally…

I was so very proud to attend, and be part of, the Schools Gala last week. Such a slick and comprehensive operation, providing 27 schools and 280 kids with their first opportunities in competitive swimming. I absolutely loved when we introduced our squad swimmers for the demonstration race with which local primary schools they used to attend…so many nice little touches like that. I have also seen some of the lovely feedback from the schools that has come in. A truly spectacular event organised and run by Thelma, the organising team and all the other many, many volunteers that helped. Thank-you and congratulations – brilliant!

We are planning to run a couple of events in the near future and need your help.

We are planning to sell second hand kit (flippers, snorkels, costumes, goggles etc) also teas and coffee and cakes to spectators and swimmers. For this we are looking for all second hand kit donations. Could you please keep hold of any second hand kit you have and pass it to one of the fundraising team (Emily Whyte, Sabina Lopez, Cath Johnson, Gemma Nash, Kate Thorman) or squad reps or contact us at fundraising@wcpsc.org.uk

We are also looking for anyone who would like to bake cakes, biscuits etc for the sale. Please let us know if you are able to bring any along for the sale by emailing fundraising@wcpsc.org.uk.

We also need raffle prizes for these events. If anyone runs a business, which could donate a prize e.g free meal, gym membership, gift etc please let us know. If you have any contacts for raffle prizes also please get in touch fundraising@wcpsc.org.uk.

2. We are planning to run a car boot sale on Sunday Oct 14th. For this we are asking you to have a summer clear out and any unwanted stuff can then be donated to penguins to sell at the carboot sale. It needs to be in used but saleable condition so please keep hold of anything you maybe getting rid of. We will be asking for all donations the week starting the 8th Oct further details will be sent out in September.

In order to run the car boot sale we will need lots of the swimmers and some parents to volunteer so please put a note of the date in your diaries.

Thanks for all your help. In the meantime don’t forget to sign up for the Penguins charity lottery and also register for easy fundraising. Together we can meet our target!

Swim out of your Skins Meet

A reminder that this event was cancelled due to issues with Waterlooville Pool

Hampshire Development Meet

Entries have closed and are in the process of being submitted
This event is due to run at Waterlooville Pool too. The organisers have been assured by the Pool owners that everything should be ready for the event to run. However there is clearly still some risk that the event may not run but the organisers are working on the assumption the competition will run as scheduled.
Swimmers selected to swim relays will be notified by the coaches.

Portsmouth End of Season Meet

All entries are accepted and can be viewed here: http://pnsc2.co.uk/event/pnsc-end-of-season-meet-14th-15th-july-2018/ . These will be uploaded to our website too.
(it is worth noting that this meet was first come first served and filled incredibly quickly, well ahead of the official closing date. So huge thanks to Alison Oakley for setting an early entry date and getting everything in so quickly!)

Fareham Nomads End of Season Meet

Fareham are still accepting entries for this meet, having extended the deadline to be able to take some swimmers from the cancelled Skins meet. Their extended closing date is 22nd June. (our own closing date has passed and we have submitted our club entry).
If you would like to now enter this meet, or would like to add to events already entered, please do so directly through the Fareham website.
