CEO Update

Hi all,
By way of a very short update, we are all set for Head Coach interviews on various days next week. Timings have been confirmed, invites are out, presentation topic set, practical session requirements set, interview panel ready!  Will keep you informed.

We had a positive meeting with City Council staff and councellors, alongside Swim England again this week. There were good discussions about our future pool requirements for the new Sport and Leisure Park, as well as the building and equipment specifications and lessons provision. We are all committed to a collaborative approach that ensures the long term sustainability and success of both the new facility and ourselves. We will be submitting more detailed requirements to them over the next month.

Well done to all those that attended the 15/Over Regionals last weekend. I am told there were some excellent swims, including PBs, finalists and regional champions, in Charlotte Prince-Rayner and Iona Morley. Well done to all our swimmers, coaches, volunteers and parent supporters. Up next are the 14/Under – Good Luck!!!

All members / parents should have received a note this week about data privacy. As part of being compliant with our privacy policy we spent a day having a spring clean of old documents, folders and files. We will now be getting an industrial shredding company in to help destroy the information (adhering to all the regulations about security obviously).

Finally, the notes from the Board of Trustee meeting held at the end of March are now available on the website. Any questions please get in touch.

Update from Interim Head Coach

The end of the first weekend of regionals left the coach and most of the swimmers exhausted, three and a half days in a very hot pool 11+ hours a day tends to do that to you. So why would you put yourself though that you ask .. So here is why:

The feeling of pride you have as a coach in the efforts of the swimmers you work with is unsurpassed in my view. Charlotte Prince Rayner and Iona Morley are 2018 regional champions, both smashing personal bests to take the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly respectively. This combined with swimmers racing to plan and pushing the limits of personal endurance and speed, achieving lots of PB swims, forms a feeling of pride in what we do.

Most importantly the resilience and attitude of all our swimmers was outstanding. Their support for each other, their ability to cope under pressure, help team mates, and coaches, stood out from the rest. Was I proud of the Winchester swimmers? Yes I was. Do I think we can improve? Yes I do, and with the attitude shown by all at the weekend, improvement is not just possible but inevitable.

Acting Head Coach
