It was great to see more swimming at the Club Championships last Saturday, and hopefully people didn’t miss the opportunity to see a few fireworks afterwards. As I have previously mentioned, it is great to see so many people giving up their time to ensure our swimmers have a rewarding experience. Having spoken to a few of the younger ones I know how excited they were to be able to participate, and they even managed to break some PB’s.
I was with Kim and the Masters squads last week reviewing current provision, including the challenges and the opportunities. It was nice to see such an open forum and joint problem solving. My thanks to Kim and Liz Hatfield for organising and squad members for attending and contributing.
This Saturday we have the next Trustee meeting where we will be considering, amongst other things, membership fees. As you probably know, these are renewed each January and are made up of the Governing Body fees at national, regional and local level as well as a club fee. The National Governing Body have made us aware of their increases this year and the Trustees will need to consider those in determining the Charity’s final fees for 2018.
I went on a fact-finding mission this week, down the A31 to meet Richard Garfield from Guildford Swimming Club. It was an extremely useful hour and a half, given their similarities in how they are constituted, geographically positioned in the county, the membership and demographics they serve and the activities they put on. I was probing Richard on their operating model, their structure, their pool access agreements, and a range of other topics. Richard was very open and candid and provided many ideas for our Trustees, Management Team and others to consider. I hope to meet Richard again in the near future.
Coaching team are due to have a full team meeting this week to look at, amongst other things, potential squad moves and the current timetable. It has also been good to see some applications come in for the coaching post we are currently advertising for.
Sue Falconer and I will be with Winchester City Council again this week to discuss the aquatic needs of Winchester, the proposed new pool specification at Bar End and access to pool time for WCPSC. We will obviously keep you abreast of discussions and developments.
That’s it for now.
