CEO Update

Hi all, some chunky items to share this week!

Launch of Strategy consultation

We are pleased to be able to launch the consultation of our Strategy 2018-2021 document that sets out the headline purpose and ambitions over this period. Having initiated work to review the previous strategy, alongside consultancy firm Press Red, we have continued to develop the draft documentation to a point where we would like to now invite wider input.

We know that the draft documentation will need to evolve, but we feel that this is now most effectively undertaken through member and wider stakeholder feedback, ahead of finalising for the 2018-19 season and beyond.

Parent Education Session / Extraordinary General Meeting – evening of 17, 18 or 19 July

We will be hosting a parent education session and short General Meeting in July, primarily to update the Constitution and vote in new trustees. The Constitution needs amending to bring it in line with Swim England and Charity Commission best practice and we are also looking to bring on board new Trustees (see below). We intend to use proxy voting for those that may be considering heading on holiday ahead of the Summer rush or are just away for the event. I will be emailing out to everyone more-specific details early next week.

New Trustee Recruitment
We would like to invite interest and applications for additional Trustee roles on our Board, to be voted-in as part of the July 2018 EGM.

We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a rich history of swimming provision dating back 70 years. We have 1200 members across our competitive and learn-to-swim programmes and service another 800 non-members each year through community provision. We offer a diverse programme of swimming activities, regardless of people’s interests, ambitions, ability, age and personal circumstance.

All Trustees will be insured under our Swim England policy against Public & Products Liability, Professional Indemnity, and Management Liability.

So here’s the call to action;

  • if you are interested in a Trustee role, download the pack and get in touch
  • If you aren’t interested but know someone who would be a great addition to the Trustee team, get in touch and let us know (that can include non-members that we could consider co-opting on)
  • For the full recruitment pack head here

Solid Foundations

As you may be able to tell from the above and in our recent activity, it is our intention to have all the major foundations in place for the start of the 2018-19 season; new Strategy, new Trustees, new Head Coach, updated Constitution; new coach mentoring programme, new Youth Forum, consolidated volunteer network, etc, etc.

I am very much looking forward to the biggest event in our year this week with the Schools Gala. It’s been months in the making, brilliantly managed by Thelma Hawkings and we are almost there. I have been given my roles and told it’s going to be hot and to bring lots of water. With 27 schools competing it’s going to be epic!

We are really looking forward to the gala this Friday! Thank you to everyone who has offered to help out and those who have donated items to go in the hampers for the raffle. We hope it’s going to be great day for the 27 schools signed up to compete and have fun.

Rotary Swimathon

Well done to to Vicky Harrison, Lionel Jones, Sam Chadwick, Freya Crompton, Martin Humphrys, Charlotte Lewis and Abi Jones for completing the WCPSC Swimathon today. They completed an amazing 295 lengths – 7375m in 55mins! To donate please follow the link. All donations will go towards new diving blocks!

They are great value, and available in a wide variety of colours, and you are able to add your initials and/or surname to the back if you would like to!
