New WCPSC website: Now live

For eagle eyed members you will have noticed a change to our website.

Although at an early stage of development, we are delighted the new WCPSC website is now live. This will enable us to update information far more speedily, improving communication for members and ‘visitors’ . The intention is to build on the functionality needed to meet the needs of all areas of the Charity over the coming weeks.   Your feedback is welcome via the Contact Us form on the website.  Thank you hugely to all the volunteers and staff who are assisting with this much needed improvement, in particular to Martin Wilson, at Indigo102, e: martin@indigo102.com

Trustee: Poppy Morley: Thank you

Members who were not at the AGM may not be aware Poppy Morley stood down as a Trustee in January. The Board of Trustees would like to thank Poppy, on behalf of all members for all her efforts as a Trustee of the Charity.

If you would like to know more about becoming a Trustee please contact trusteeboard@wcpsc.org.uk

Winchester Primary Schools Gala – HELP NEEDED

This year on the morning of Friday June 9th we are holding our biggest event of the year with about 300 children from over 25 Winchester & district Primary Schools attending. This is a fun packed morning with all swimmers not only enjoying the gala but also receiving a T shirt and goody bag each.

However to run this event we need to raise nearly £3,000. To do this we need YOUR help please.

The attached letter gives an idea of the many ways that employers, businesses or individuals could support this event. Please would you look at it and consider whether this is something you could join in with, maybe print it and take it to your employer or local businesses. Maybe you feel you could give a little time to help co-ordinate the fund raising? Maybe you would like to give an individual donation?

Every little help is very much appreciated.

Please contact Thelma at thelmah@wcpsc.org.uk with every offer of help both with fundraising or to help on the day.

Thank you!

Winchester City Penguins Inclusive Swim Gala

WCPSC held its third inclusive gala for primary school children with additional needs at Kings School on Friday.

Some 34 pupils from six Winchester schools – Harestock, Winnall, Weeke, Otterbourne, John Keble and Shepherds Down – swam in a variety of individual events and closely-contested inter-school relays.

The event was sponsored by Winchester Round Table and attended by Winchester Mayor, Jane Rutter.

Liz Hatfield, a member of WCPSC’s Board of Trustees, commented, “This is my favourite swimming event of a great many that I attend each year! I love to see swimmers enjoying the experience of a day in the pool and making new friends. An important part of our remit at Winchester City Penguins is to ensure that there is good access to all the positive benefits of swimming for everyone in our community”.

Roger Jones, from Winchester Round Table, added, “Round Table is proud to be involved with this brilliant event. There have been lots of smiles around the poolside and in the water today.”

A big thank you to all the volunteers that came to help. Also thanks to our fabulous swimmer volunteers from Kings School who supported the children in the water – Ed Menlove, Freddie Smith, Pietro Forconi, Fenella Weston, Maddy Harrison and Millie Smith.
