Hi all, a few important things to update on this week.
In staffing news our Assistant Head of Swimming, Sam Chadwick, has left Winchester City Penguins. Sam has been with us since joining back in September 2017 and we would like to thank Sam for the work he has done for the club. We wish Sam the best in his future endeavours.
We will be covering Sam’s hours with our existing coaching staff and we will add to the coaching team over the comings weeks with a view to starting the 2018/19 season with a full complement of Lead Coaches. If you have any queries arising from this, please come to myself for non-coaching matters, or to Steve Greenfield for anything related to coaching.
As a reminder, on Thursday the 19th July we have a Nutrition and Hydration workshop and Special General Meeting at Winchester Rugby Club, 6pm. We will be sending out an invitation in due course with all the details, but for now please pencil it in the diary. The workshop is for older swimmers, parents and other interested parties.
We had a positive Trustee meeting this week covering the usual broad range of topics, including swimming updates, current financial picture and forecast, strategy and facility developments, safeguarding and operational risks registers, as well as more specific planning for the General Meeting and next year’s swimming programme and associated fees. It was great to have our new Head Coach, Steve, at the meeting to provide greater context to the papers provided. Meeting notes will be published on the website, once finalised.
Have a great weekend when it arrives,
Hampshire Development Meet

We are planning to sell second hand kit (flippers, snorkels, costumes, goggles etc) also teas and coffee and cakes to spectators and swimmers. For this we are looking for all second hand kit donations. Could you please keep hold of any second hand kit you have and pass it to one of the fundraising team (Emily Whyte, Sabina Lopez, Cath Johnson, Gemma Nash, Kate Thorman) or squad reps or contact us at email@example.com
We are also looking for anyone who would like to bake cakes, biscuits etc for the sale. Please let us know if you are able to bring any along for the sale by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
We also need raffle prizes for these events. If anyone runs a business, which could donate a prize e.g free meal, gym membership, gift etc please let us know. If you have any contacts for raffle prizes also please get in touch email@example.com.
- We are planning to run a car boot sale on Sunday Oct 14th. For this we are asking you to have a summer clear out and any unwanted stuff can then be donated to penguins to sell at the carboot sale. It needs to be in used but saleable condition so please keep hold of anything you maybe getting rid of. We will be asking for all donations the week starting the 8th Oct further details will be sent out in September.
In order to run the car boot sale we will need lots of the swimmers and some parents to volunteer so please put a note of the date in your diaries.
Thanks for all your help. In the meantime don’t forget to sign up for the Penguins charity lottery and also register for easy fundraising. Together we can meet our target!
It’s Week 11 in our lessons programme this week – which means assessment and distance week!
This week teachers shall be completing their final assessments before writing reports. Swimmers will also be given a second opportunity to have a go at gaining a distance badge. However don’t worry if you do miss this weeks lessons as teachers have been assessing all term and we shall also be offering a distance session during summer.
Reports will be handed out on the week commencing the 16th July – so don’t forget to bring some spare change to buy badges! Awards (badge and certificate) cost £3.50.
Next term we shall be starting an additional lengths lessons session on a Monday evening between 6:30-7:30pm for stages 5b to 8. Our lessons programme is in great demand and with a waiting list of well over 100 swimmers, it’s a fantastic opportunity to expand our lessons programme.
There is only 4 days left to make the most of the 10% EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT for our Summer Holiday Courses. We shall have a lot of familiar teaching faces teaching this summer including Isabelle Harrison, Gina Stables, Abi Jones, Matt Elliott and Samara Jones. 1:1 and 1:2 lessons are available on request. Just drop me a line and we shall see where we can squeeze you in. Follow the link and complete a booking form today : http://wcpsc.org.uk/summer-holiday-swimming-courses/

Lessons Club T-shirts and Hoodies for swimmers!
It’s great to see some of our swimmers arriving at lessons in the new WCPSC lessons t-shirts and hoodies! If you haven’t got yours yet why not have a look at the range below. They are great value, and available in a wide variety of colours, and you are able to add your initials and/or surname to the back if you would like to!
If you can’t see a colour you would like, why not suggest one and we will see if we can add it to the range!
Please remember to give the Membership Secretary a month’s notice in writing if you/your child no longer wishes to swim with the Club and we can cancel your direct debit accordingly.
If you are going away to university in September, please contact the Membership Secretary to change your membership to a student rate.
