Club Championships 2018

INTRODUCING THE WCPSC CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

Dear swimmers and parents.

We are very much looking forward to the continuation of our 2018 Club Championships after the summer break.

As many of you will be aware we held the first session – comprising the 800m / 1500m events – in early June and this saw some fabulous racing and great times! We anticipate more of the same in the 6 sessions still to come!

The schedule for the remaining events can be seen HERE. All sessions will be held at St Swithuns School on Saturdays from 2 until 9pm.  Click HERE to view the Promotor’s Conditions.

The dates for your diaries are:

20th October and 24th November.

ENTRIES

  • With the dates being spread out we will take 3 batches of entries – 1 for each day.
  • Closing dates (at midnight) for entries will be:
    • 1st October for sessions 4 and 5 on 20th October
    • 3rd November for sessions 6 and 7 on 24th November
  • This year we hope to take entries through Swim Club Manager. More details and instructions will follow but essentially this system will collate all entries for us, and automatically add swim times when they exist. It will make the whole process easier and quicker for both members and the open meets team!
  • As always, late entries will incur a £10 additional fee and we would encourage entry submission as early as possible.
  • Entry lists WILL still need checking once published!
  • The fee per event will be £4.25, with no cap.

THE RACING

  • Age Groups will be : 8/U, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15/Over as at midnight on 31st December 2018.
  • All races will be swum as mixed gender which always provides an extra exciting dimension to racing!
  • Timing will be manual.
  • There will be BAGCATS for ages up to 14y but no SADCATS for 15/over.

THE BAGCATS

  • Swimmers aged up to 14y will receive awards based on BAGCATS
  • BAGCATS are a points based system in which points earned across a number of events are totalled up. The nature / number of events included in the points total depends on the age of the swimmer.
  • This system was developed by the ASA to encourage swimmers to compete across a range of events, and certainly those strong over a range of strokes / distances will score well overall.
  • (every swim result earns a number of points, dependent purely on the time achieved. This applies to everyone from someone in their first ever meet to Adam Peaty’s world records!)
  • The following table shows what events are included in a full BAGCAT for each age. In order to compete for top positions in the overall BAGCAT competition, it is essential that the swimmer enters events in all categories over the whole of the Club Champs.
  • Their best event in each category will count towards their BAGCAT total.

So, as an example, to score maximal points, a 9 year old swimmer should try to enter at least one 50m event; one 200m of fly, breast or back; one 200m or 400m free; and one IM event.  But ideally enter lots more than this!!! Please talk to your coaches for more advice if needed.

THE SKINS EVENT

  • A bonus highlight  of our Club Champs!
  • The six fastest boys and girls in the 200 IM are selected from the age groups 11/U; 12-13y; 14/O.  (200 IM is in the first session on 20th October).
  • The SKINS will then take place at the start of the second session on the same date.
  • The swimmers will swim a series of elimination sprints – off a 3 minute turn-around time – in their age/gender category until a winner is determined.
  • The 11/U swimmers sprint over 25m whilst everyone else goes over 50m.
  • Each sprint could be any stroke – this being determined by pulling a named ball out of a bag.
  • It’s fast, furious and fun to watch, and a great challenge for those racing.
  • Prizes for all winners!

VOLUNTEERS

  • We cannot run the Club Championships without a huge amount of help. Ideally we’d love everyone to come and do something, so that no-one has to do too much!
  • There are lots and lots of roles we need help with:
    • Officiating
    • Time keeping
    • Stewarding swimmers
    • Manning withdrawals
    • Producing start sheets
    • Inputting results
    • Refreshments
    • Door entry
    • Raffle
    • Race announcements
  • No prior experience is needed for many of these roles, and we are keen to get more people trained up!
  • So please please do offer some assistance when you submit entries – further details of how to do this will be available in due course.
